Not a Bread and Butter Issue

Over 160 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in neighbouring Singapore. The COVID-19 pandemic there looks like not ending in the near future. God is kinder back home. For a few days in a row now, the number of new COVID-19 cases reported is below 10. There's already news that schools would fully be reopened soon. In the past, prior to Covid-19, most schools would start the day with a prayer for the race, the nation and the religion. Even then, in national schools; even when there was no special religious events or talks ; on normal day, it was common to see young minds scurrying to organised religious classes where religion is taught as an academic subject and there are carefully crafted textbooks and syllabuses to prepare students for a major examination. Then of course, that only applies to the official religion of the country. Buddhist children in Malaysia, I suppose don't learn about their religion this way. Either their parents teach their children themselves, send them to Sunday schools in temples; which aren't many; or they learn about it as they bump through life. If many don't learn at all, it wouldn't be a surprise. What's this about religion when there is a bread and butter issue to solve?
