Sweet Nothing

When the COVID- 19 virus struck the world and many countries came under lockdown, many people inadvertently lost their jobs. Videos showing jobless Indians walking back from New Delhi to their hometowns thousand of miles away went viral; and in a European city, well wishers hung plastic bags of food on railings by the roadside for the less fortunate. Nearer home, NGOs looked for sponsors of food for the poor and the needy. Personally, I was attracted by videos in Facebook of a local popular preacher going round, giving groceries to poor people of all races and religion which of course was something to be proud of and encouraged. As he moved from house to house, he would talk to the people, asked them their problems and even passed sweet comments like oh, your kids are so cute or Uncle is handsome or Be patient. God loves you and things like that. I remember preachers in churches talk like that too and in Christian hymns, devotees profess their love for God and declare that God loves them as much. I think it would be nice if Buddhist monks do some whispering of sweet nothing too.
