Robert may call himself an Amearican but wonder if he still is one if he starts calling himself a Buddhist or Asian. In a Buddhist text somewhere, it is stated whether or not you label yourself a Buddhist or not, whether or not you believe in the teaching of the Buddha, Dhamma will be always there. Dhamma, primarily means either the teachings of the Buddha which lead to enlightenment or the constituent factors of the experienced world; the latter most probably means the natural law that governs the universe, laws like law of Karma etc. That Dhamma will always be there perhaps means that while Buddhism preaches the impermanence of things in this mundane world, there is very much a permanent part which makes up the world. Perhaps, you would start to think that it is contradictory, wouldn't you? If there is black, how could there be white?
