Dukkha (Pāli दुक्ख; Sanskrit दुःख duḥkha) is often translated as suffering, but Sir Monier-Williams(1819-1899) who studied, documented and taught Asian languages in England and compiled one of the most widely-used Sanskrit-English dictionaries said the word correspond to a number of terms in English and these include pain, sorrow, affliction, anxiety, dissatisfaction, discomfort, anguish, stress, misery, and frustration. Dukkha undeniably is a very central part of life. That dukkha is there makes one wonders why some people want to have a long life, let alone life at all. And since some religion also promise eternal life after death for their faithful followers, it baffles further ....Why do some people pray for a long life?
