The other day when I was in Brunei, Mau Wei received a message in her cellphone saying that the petrol price would go up to RM 2.70 per litre. We were on our way back to Miri, Sarawak and Mau Wei took the opportunity to fill up the tank but unfortunately, Malaysian could only buy their petrol at certain petrol kiosks near the border and even then, they are limited to B$10 worth of petrol. When we were back in Sarawak, I called up my nephew and he told me that there was a long queue for petrol at the petrol kiosks in Kuala Lumpur. The same thing was happening in Miri. It seemed that suddenly, the whole nation was out to save a few bucks. That and the cartoon from The Time of India which Hoi Thean sent me really reminded me of a Chinese concept called Wu-Wo 無我茶). I thought this Wu-Wo concept is actually the Buddhist concept of Śūnyatā or Suññatā in Pāli meaning Emptiness or Voidness. Whethr they are they same or not now is immaterial, but really if there is no car, there is no need to worry over the rise in price of petrol just like if there is no body, there is no need for the fear of diseases. Some people think of this concept as an nihilism, a very negative concept I suppose but Buddha forbade, some twisted minds would even take this as a reason to end lives. But if you choose to look at reality and if you choose to accept reality, Wu-wo or Sunyata would not be such a bad thing after all. If you have something, you ought to live with the problem. There is no compromise. Have a car and worry over the price hike; have a body and expect some form of diseases. Since you can't escape that, perhaps, one should just learn to live with it and that perhaps should start with looking for any possible solutions...
