There has always been a reason behind the things offered to Lord Buddha or so I heard. The candle for instance; the brightness of it reminds one of the brightness brought about by the understanding of the Dhamma and I would believe too that the flickering of the candle flame reminds one of the impermanence of things around us. Talking about impermanence, our own body itself should be a reminder. Just the other day, in the local newspaper, I came across an interesting article that states that the different parts of the body start to age at different time and this information has been obtained by Angela Epstein with the help of leading clinicians: Liver- 70 years Voice, Bladder - 65 years Taste and smell - 60 years Gut- 55 years Hearing - mid-50s Prostrate, Kidneys-50 years Teeth, Heart, Eyes - 40 years Bones, Breasts, Fertility -35 years Hair -30 years Skin - mid-20s Lungs, Brain - 20 years! That's really food for thoughts, don't you think?
