Oh, poor Vivian Chow! The Cantopop singer and actress who is well known for her ladylike stage image and her charity works for animal rights has been in the news for all the wrong reasons! First, there was news about her break up with long time boyfriend, Joe Nieh on Dec 11 but on Dec 18, Nieh surprised the public by announcing that he had successfully proposed to Chow and was preparing for their wedding! And that was after an incident at a nightspot in Lam Kwai Fong where Nieh was caught in passionate kisses with a 22-year old student, Miffty Zhang who later said she was just in Hong Kong to pursue her studies and being not a public figure, could not handle the fictitious reports and criticisms on various media. I suppose Vivian Chow, though a public figure, would had a hard time handling this scandal too. In fact, Vivian had at one time in the past, shut herself away from the public when she could not handle the sudden invasion into her personal life. She had also retired from the entertainment scene in the late 1990s and emigrated to Vancouver, Canada with Nieh. I didn't know when or whether she had made a comeback to entertainment but recently, prior to the Lam Kwai Fong Scandal, I had caught a glimpse of Vivian in TV and had thought how extremely thin she had become. I suppose Vivian did not have a smooth sailing life, what with a boyfriend like Nieh. Someone told me that Miffty Zhang was not the only woman Nieh had been involved with, there had always been others in the past; but I don't know, I am just wondering now whether having passionate kisses with someone's else boyfriend tantamounts to breaking one of the Five Precepts: the Third Precepts to be precise, Kāmesu micchācāra veramaṇī sikkhāpadaṃ samādiyāmi, that is to refrain from sexual misconduct...
