God is Love. A church in Java, Indonesia(inset), professed. I remember in Bruce Almighty, the 2003 American comedy film starring Jim Carrey, God is but a black man played by Morgan Freeman. It is easier to think of God as having the body of Man rather than being something as abstract as love. But the Indonesian church, or more specifically, Javanese church had me wondering about Buddhism and Buddha. Love isn't an integral part in Buddhism, is it? The Five Precepts and the Four Noble Truth especially, dwells more on the do and don't in life and offers a prescription to the end of worldly sufferings. Where is the love part which like sweet honey attracts the bees and ants? And Buddha, did he preach love during his years of ministry? Described as a mere enlightened mortal, is he without love?
