Why Attachment?

Alexander III of Macedon (356–323 BC), otherwise known as Alexander the Great (inset) created one of the largest empires in ancient history and thus became the most celebrated member of the Argead Dynasty. The Greek was known to be undefeated in battle and is considered one of the most successful commanders of all time, best remembered for his tactical ability, his conquests, and for spreading Greek culture to the East. He passed away at 32. His reign was thus short and his empire, short-lived. During his funeral, Alexander the Great purportedly had his coffin carried to the grave by physicians. He purportedly also requested that the path leading to his graveyard be strewn with gold, silver and precious stones and his hands be dangled out of the coffin. Strange as this may be, it was said that it was his way of telling the world that a doctor cannot save a person from death, that one cannot take even a fraction of his gold with him upon death and that one just as he came into the world, emptyhanded, would have to leave empty handed. So, now, perhaps, we should ask, Why attachment?
