Vesak 2010: Vesak Fun

Vesak Day, some say is informally called Buddha's Birthday and it encompasses the birth, enlightenment (nirvāna), and passing away (Parinirvāna) of Gautama Buddha. That it encompasses three important periods of Buddha's life is rather confusing perhaps, but never mind - Vesak Day can turn up to be a fun day instead of something spiritual. Take for instance the recent Vesak Day which fell on Friday, May 28th; I remember Kang calling me up to help him put up some lamps in Sasanarakkha Buddhist Sanctuary (SBS) for devotees to light up come Vesak night. So, there I was on Vesak Day, at the Hokkien cemetery near Aun Say Garden in Taiping with some friends and several teenagers, getting ready to go up the hill. The young boys and girls seemed rather excited and it looked like they were going on a holiday trip somewhere!

Can you spot Buddha?

More fun coming up soon!

It's not right, I think: to put 3 holidays in one period is to bereave the persons of their right to relax!

I would like to have 3 holidays, instead of 1. You'd too!
