When the lamps lit up almost all at once, it was just like the dark forest started to glow into life. It was truly a beautiful Vesak night! Never mind that the word Vesak had been spelled with a W. I remember during the old school days, we were taught that Vesak is spelled with a V. Earlier, just before dinner, after placing the lamps on the curbs of the road, there were still some boxes of lamps left. Someone thought it would be a great idea to create the words Happy Vesak with the surplus lamps and there you were - Happy Wesak! Nobody seemed to mind and some even started to follow suit by spelling Vesak with a W. Perhaps, you have heard of this thing called herd mentality, a term used to describe how people are influenced by their peers to adopt certain behaviors, follow trends etc. I suppose if it is not a place of worship one is torching or any other misdeed one is involved in, herd mentality isn't that bad at all...
