Somewhere I read: Buddhist meditation strictly refers to the teaching of the historical Buddha; Even if that sentence sounds vague or weird, that did give the idea that meditation is a very important part of Buddhism. In SSB, one gets to learn Vipassana Meditation. Retreats are held especially during the school holidays at the end of the year and I heard of one enterprising Penangite who learned to meditate in the retreats and later progressed to opening a meditation school in Kuala Lumpur. His pupils have to pay for the lesson unlike here at SSB. One surprise here on Vesak night was one could get a taste of Vipassana meditation. There were monks conducting a meditation session that night and my friend, Thomas, who had not had an experience in meditating decided to go for it. Maybe, having a meditation session on Vesak Night is a marvellous idea. What do you think?
