Xie Shaoguang 谢韶光 probably was one of the best known Singaporean actors. Since appearing in his first drama A Mother's Love (亲心唤我心) in 1989, he went on to win the Best Actor award five times, the Best Supporting Actor award twice and was one of the Top 10 Most Popular Male Artiste for 10 years consecutively. He had in 1997, played the drunken, supposedly crazy Buddhist monk, Ji Gong in The Legend of Ji Gong (inset) and there was a report now about this reel life of his turning into real life. Yes, Xie Shaguang is now a Buddhist monk! After studying Buddhism for eight years, he had been ordained at Ji Le Yuan in Pontian, Johor in Malaysia. Jesus! Probably, you'd not be more surprised to hear of Xie Shaoguang being a Buddhist monk than about Jesus himself being a Buddhist monk... Just watch this BBC programme about Jesus....
