What do you call the state of psychological stability and composure which is undisturbed by experience of or exposure to emotions, pain, or other phenomena that may cause others to lose the balance of their mind? Equanimity of course and that's not the $250 million superyacht which had attracted a lot of attention even before it docked in Port Klang, Malaysia (inset). Equanimity is very much a part of Buddhism though. In Buddhist term ,upekkha, meaning to look over, equanimity is one of the most sublime emotions of Buddhist practice and is said to be the basis for wisdom and freedom and the protector of compassion and love. Buddha described a mind filled with equanimity as abundant, exalted, immeasurable, without hostility and without ill-will.
