News of a double bomb attack on a Catholic church in Jolo in Southern Philippines which killed at least 18 people on 27 January probably send chills down your spine. Two bombs similarly went off about a month ago in Samila Beach, Songkhla, and while it didn't claim any life, it damaged the iconic Golden Mermaid Statue. The first of Buddhists' Five Percepts Panatipata veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures most certainly suggests that the incident in the Philippines is to be frowned on. Life is precious and while Buddhism does not view life as God's creation, believers in God wouldn't in their right mind destroy His creations; not unless they mean to show their disrespect. I suppose there is no Buddhist precept about destroying Man's creations; at least not that I know of. But if you have a logical mind, you'd frown on that too, wouldn't you?; noting that it caused dukkha, suffering, that is.
