Death Thoughts

Buddhists, I understand, are encouraged to contemplate death. In an article I came across, contemplating death doesn't seem like a good thing; it supposedly increases one's nationalistic bias and makes a person more prejudiced against other racial, religious and age groups. That seems like a complete opposite of Buddhist thought which views death in a seemingly more positive light. Death is inevitable and in realising that, painful thoughts, emotions and arrogance ought to take second place; the priority is to live now, to live well and meaningfully for life being finite, is precious. I suppose, death, like many things else in this world, would mean a different thing to different people.
