Once I read about Tom Hank of Forrest Gump fame getting infected by covid-19. Next day, I read that he had passed away because of the virus, only to find out later it was fake news. Even the origin of the covid-19 virus is now a suspect. Once, it was reported that it came from the wildlife market in Wuhan, China and when people there died and the city was lockdown, some people claimed that all that happened was because of God's punishment for China's mistreatment of Uighurs. When finally Wuhan managed to bring the virus under control, the virus has spread all over the world, to Italy, America and suddenly I read it was Wuhan's fault; not a punishment from God; and since it didn't spread to other Chinese cities, it is alleged that it could all be China's plan to show off its capabilities like building a hospital in ten days and create havoc in the other parts of the world and then feigning kindness by providing help. China must really be silly to put her own city and countrymen at risk perhaps; but that's how some minds in the social media work. I suppose social media has indeed brought the fourth Buddhist precept Musavada veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami I undertake the precept to refrain from incorrect speech to a higher level.
