A Monk's Robe

Just the other day, I came across a picture of a Buddhist monk in a Facebook posting. Buddhist monks wear robes called Kāṣāya. In ancient India where these robes originated, the robes were made from discarded rags which were boiled in a dye to give them the characteristic brown or saffron colour.  The Buddhist monk featured in the posting raises eyebrows because his robe was not the traditional brown or saffron. Someone said it was wrong to wear a robe like his which had patches of red, blue, white and yellow and commented  that Buddha probably would not allow it. I started to wonder if Buddha would approve of the to robes of Mahayana monks.
