To Each His Own Path

Just the other day, the subject of Buddhist monks cropped up in a conversation. Someone told me that her husband was of the opinion that some people become monks because they couldn't earn a living as a layman and becoming a monk would at least ensure them a decent meal; which could be true considering that there are always devout Buddhists who are all too keen to perform dana in the form of offering food to members of the Sangha. Then of course, there are other reasons too.  Every monk walk his own path and there are better reasons if one care to look.
