God Protects

Have heard of Mandala in Buddhist art; not that I know much about it; and now, this - Mandala dance. In a Chinese web series, Detective Chinatown 唐人街探案, a woman performed the dance before jumping from a high-rise building to her death. The woman has prior to this, reported hearing sutras being chanted and then, three of her friends hear it too before strange incidents befall them. Then, the women who have prayed and made a wish to the four faced Buddha and not having their wishes granted, think the Hindu God is out to get them. The investigating detective however refutes their claim, saying that God protects, not harm. Now, I wonder if God would destroy a whole city filled with homosexuals and the unfaithful, consumed it by fire and brimstone for their sins, haughtiness, egoism, and attempted rape; or rather would He filled with compassion, attempts to counsel and coax them to walk out into the path of the righteous?
