Many people aren't paid that kind of money; definitely not Buddhist monks. Cardinals and other clerics however, according to a report earn up to €5,000 or $5,900 a month and even that, their accomodations are often subsidised. The present Covid-19 pandemic however had Pope Francis ordering as much as 3 to 10% pay cuts for them. Once I heard that there were Buddhist monks in such as such a temple driving a mercedes, using an Iphone and things like that. Not sure if it's permissible but it's certainly not procured from the money which they earn. In an article on monks and money by Ajahn Brahmavamso, it's stated that monks are neither allowed to accept money for themselves nor are they to let a layperson receive and keep it on their behalf. Having given up the mundane life to pursue a spiritual one, money is said to be not the way of a Buddhist monk. Accordingly, the 19th rule in the Nissaggiya Pacittiya is said to forbid monks from using money to sell and buy things for themselves.
