It didn't occur to me until someone sent a joke about a praying lion. It should be common knowledge that Christians say a prayer before taking their meals; one would see scenes of family gathering and praying at the kitchen table, thanking God for the food on the table in Old American TV series like The Waltons and The Little House in the Prairie. Muslims probably do too for in public school; a prayer is always said by the religious teacher just before an event; not necessary an eating event. As for Buddhists, saying a prayer before a meal definitely does not occur in an ordinary Buddhist household. In a meditation retreat yes; though the prayer to thank isn't directed to Buddha or other being but more to be aware of the moment; to be mindful of the good things we have. That sounds like a good thing which ought to extend to our daily routine perhaps.
