Digesting Dependent Origination


Pratītyasamutpāda
and paṭiccasamuppāda are rather big words, overwhelming even. The Sanskrit and Pali words, translated as dependent origination is said to be a key doctrine in all schools of Buddhism. According to this doctrine, all phenomena arise in dependence upon other phenomena. In Samyutta Nikaya, it is stated: When this exists, that comes to be. With the arising (uppada) of this, that arises. When this does not exist, that does not come to be. With the cessation (nirodha) of this, that ceases. I have yet to digest this...
