Just the other day, I came across an article of a famous Bollywood actor Dharmendra who reportedly converted from Hinduism to Islam because the religion allowed a man to have four wives. The Express Tribune reported both he and another Bollywood great, Hema Malini converted to legitimise their marriage, something they could not do as Hindu since Dharmendra was already a married man and had not intended to divorce his first wife. A British singer Cat Stevens embraced Islam for another reason; he had nearly drowned while swimming in the Pacific but was saved by a little wave which brought him to shore after he prayed to the almighty to save him. His brother had given him a copy of the Quran then; and since then Cat Stevens had become a very devoted Muslim. A layman gave as many as 20 reasons why he is a Buddhist in his Fb account; but American singer Tina Turner who had practised Buddhism for over two decades did not give as many reasons; dramatic or otherwise. Each of us has our own reason or reasons for embracing a religion, I suppose.
