A Simple Buddhism

Someone commented about Buddhism just being meditation, aiming for the mind to stop thinking and that being very simple, there's not much more to learn. Then, I was wondering how on earth Buddha came out with the idea of The Four Noble Truth while meditating under the bodhi tree. There ought to be some thinking involved; and meditation by right, does not stop thinking but help to keep the thinking in focus. While there probably is more to learn in Buddhism considering that there are the voluminous Tripitaka and the various Buddhist schools; Theravada, Mahayana and Vajrayana; it would be nice to think of Buddhism as just being very simple with some fundamental doctrines that help to ease life's pain. With nothing much more to learn, perhaps one could then concentrate on practising.
