I read about Buddha being gravely sick and upon recovering requested Venerable Mahācunda to recite the Seven Factors of Awakening. The seven factors; mindfulness, investigation, energy, joy, tranquility, concentration, and equanimity are mental capacities said to be already in us, probably waiting just to be identified, appreciated, and strengthened in order that awakening could be achieved. Awakening in Buddhism is such an elaborate affair itself. Said to have four stages, it begins with Sotāpanna (stream-enterer), Sakadāgāmi (once-returner), Anāgāmi (non-returner) and ends with Arahant. An arahant is a fully awakened person and I suppose he posesses the best mental capabilities. An arahant is probably more mindful and besides having the energy and calmness to concentrate, he probably finds joys in all his endeavours.
