I heard of Scientology long ago when I was reading about John Travolta during those Saturday Night Fever and Grease days when the star was gyrating his then slim body. Didn't quite know about the stuff but Scientology basically is a body of beliefs and related practices initially created by American speculative fiction author L. Ron Hubbard. Scientology claims to stand tall as other world religion. Though it does not have a Scientology book equivalent to the Bible or Quran, it does have some basic books and lectures to refer to as well as its own church where an ordained Scientology minister provides Sunday services and social ceremonies for marriage, birth and death. A legitimate religion in Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, some African countries, Spain and Sweden, Scientology however is regarded in most of Europe as a potentially dangerous cult, reminding me now of Falun Gong and its similar perception by China. Scientology ran into conflict with the government s and police forces of several countries including the United kingdoms, Canada, Germany and surprisingly, United States too where one of her most illustrious son, heart throb Tom Cruise, star of Mission Impossible, made a famous Scientology tape. Viewing this tape, one perhaps would ponder: Does Scientology encourage good acts and if it does, can it stand alongside other major religions? If there is hell and heaven, will believers go to heaven and if there is Nirvana too, will they attain Nirvana?
