Simpang Buddhist Association

Once, on my way to Matang, I stopped over at Simpang Buddhist Association. It was eight something in the morning and as I walked into its premises, I was confronted by a group of elderly ladies, all busy preparing food. One of them looked at me and recognised me immediately. I asked if Mr. Tan and his wife were around but was told that they would be only be there later. As I waited and looked around, I realised how big the association has grown. The Simpang Buddhist Association started off by renting a small linked house in a housing estate nearby and for some years now, has its own building and there are so many elderly women frequenting it. On the day of my visit, it was the fifteen day of the lunar calendar and the women had gathered to cook and pray. These women meet occasionaly for chanting and often are invited to chant in funerals too. Simpang Buddhist Association also runs a Sunday school and register young couples for marriages. I suppose besides disseminating Dhamma, these various activities seem to make a temple stay relevant...

It is important when such organizations think to help other persons and not only to earn money.

I think so too but still there should be money to get things done!
