Mouldy Tale

Someone told me that Buddha passed away because of food poisoning. Buddha's death is known as Parinibbana. Probably, he did get ill after eating sukaramaddava, a dish of wild mushroom offered to him by a generous host. The story of the last days of his life is reported in the texts of the Mahaparinibbana Sutta but even then, it is said that it paints two conflicting personalities of him. It would not be surprising if there are now more conflicting tales. Buddha, I heard knew about the poison in his food and he ate it nevertheless, so as not to turn down his sincere host. I thought he could decline politely but then of course, I suppose this tale is not even from the Mahaparinibbana Sutta...

Let's just enjoy these mushrooms...Which one catches your fancy?
