Sixteen Dreams

In the early 90s, there was a Taiwanese TV series called Six Dreams penned by the popular Taiwanese writer, Qiong Yao, making the round in the Chinese video market. Each dream features a romantic tale like The Mute Wife (inset), Wang Fu Cliff etc; so, the series is actually not about dreams; and six dreams is actually six love stories. That is very different from sixteen dreams. - That’s the number of dreams King Pasenadi of Kosala had. King Kosala by the way, lived during Buddha’s time and he was Buddha’s peer. Both were of the same age and knew each other very early in life. King Kosala was said to have remembered his series of 16 dreams in detail and that has been attributed to him having perfected his paramis. In Buddhism, Pāramitā ( पारमिता) or pāramī (Pāli) is perfection or completeness. It refers to the perfection or culmination of certain virtues. Man, it is said, has the ability to perfect himself. That is rather great, don't you think?
