Confession

Just as a man fought off a 2m tall bear, another in Tanah Merah, Malaysia, another courted trouble with the authority by confessing in YouTube that he is gay. In a two-minute video clip, the latter had said it took him quite some time to understand and convince himself that he was gay.The Islamic authorities in the country felt that the man had tarnished his own image and Islamic precepts. A clearly upset Perak Mufti Datuk Sri Harussani Zakaria said that since the man had acknowledged himself to be a Muslim and a Malay, he should not have made such a confession as in doing so, he has not just derided his own dignity and his religion. Mindfulness which plays a central role in the teaching of Buddhist meditation has been described as a calm awareness of one's body functions as well as feelings. It is the seventh element of the Noble Eightfold Path, the practice of which is said to support analysis resulting in the development of wisdom. Now, I wonder if realising that you are gay and accepting it calmly amounts to being mindful and in a case of a Buddhist, will the confession attract so much flakes from the monks or other Buddhists?
