Talk about gloves, the King of Pop, the late Michael Jackson has been called the gloved one for no other reason than his penchant for wearing one sequinced white glove at performances. Nevertheless this gloved story is not about the gloved one but more about Normala Sudirman, a PAS candidate who firmly refused to shake hands with men when she went around campaigning in a by-election in Tenang constituency, Malaysia. As a Muslim, she is not to have skin contact with non-muhrim, that is non-spouse or non-immediate family members. She could be flexible though. There has been a report that in one of her outing, she wore gloves and said that PKR,the opposition party president, Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail also wears gloves if she needs to shake hands with men. I remember hearing that Buddhist monks are not to have skin to skin contact with female devotees too. Perhaps, they could if they wear gloves. That's pretty great idea, don't you think?
