Be Still!

Once I wonder why people use the treadmill at all, staying at home walking or running while staying in the same old place, facing the same old drab walls and perhaps, missing out in life. Why don't they just go out to the park to do those stuffs and enjoy the fresh air there and the beautiful view; not to mention a company or two? Someone said then it was not safe to run out there; not in these modern times when joggers could end up raped and murdered. That does not happen everyday of course, but people just like to play safe. Then, talking about treadmills, there is this term that I read of - the Hedonic Treadmill. Supposed to be coined by psychologists, the term gives this idea that one may be seeking pleasure but is not getting it.  The term inadvertently reminds me of the late Ajahn Chah, the Thai monk who founded the Thai Forest Tradition. Probably, he would say, Be still! I suppose it is only when one is still that one sees.
