Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar or simply B. R. Ambedkar was an Indian jurist, economist, politician and social reformer. In 1956, he launched a Buddhist movement and campaigned against social discrimination towards the Dalits. The Dalits are the untouchables in India. About half a million of the Dalits joined him and converted to Navayana Buddhism, a new school of Buddhism said to be started by him when he re-interpreted Buddhism.
