News! : Flood

Just the other day; when it rained, it poured.  Didn't think much about it but very soon, the social media was bombarded with pics and video clips of a great flood in the state of Selangor particularly in Shah Alam and Ulu Langat. Floods actually affect a total of eight states but the one in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor seemed to take center stage and reminded some of the 1971 Kuala Lumpur floods. Then later, there were also reports on the Sikh community preparing free vegetarian meals for the flood victims in their Gurdwara and news of netizens questioning if the food provided were halal or not; and of instances where the victims refused the vegetarian food and demanded instead non-vegetarian ones with preferably chicken meat. Then, I remember seeing in Facebook a Western Theravada monk goung on alms round in Northern Thailand. In such instances, laymen are not allowed to put money in their bowls; just food, fruits maybe; and the food can be vegetarian or non-vegetarian. A monk most certainly couldn't make a personal request according to his preference.
