So, on 24 February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and the invasion received widespread international condemnation; which perhaps is understandable since the act involved killings; loss of both lives and properties and causes much sufferings. Sanctions imposed on Russia looks like tit for tat; a form of war too; which though doesn't seem to cause bloodshed, inflicts some other form of pain to other fellow humanbeings. Then, a senior US senator called out for somebody in Russia to assassinate the Russian president which makes me wonder about the Buddhist precept Panatipata veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures. Is there any difference between the actual act of killing and instigating it?
