Sickness and Karma

An acupunturist told me of Buddha being sick and accepting it as something due to his karma. Karma, I read is
actions driven by intentions. It is a deliberate action done through body, speech or mind which leads to future consequences. Attributing sickness to karma probably means the mind has wrong thoughts; wrong thoughts about hygiene perhaps; and the body doesn't do what it ought to, things like like doing exercises or eating right to promote good health. Then of course, despite having right thoughts and mainting a proper lifestyle, one falls sick anyway. Would it be proper to say then that sickness is all due to us having a body?  Without a body, whither is sickness?
