Intention in Karma

Karma, so I read; doesn't just refer to action but the intention behind the action is important as it determines the kind of rebirth, whether in a good or not so good plane. In the American TV series Tell Me a Story, there is a story about three robbers robbing a jewellery shop. The robbers have intended to rob diamonds but have in the process, unwittingly shot and killed a woman who was there with her fiance to buy a wedding ring. Obviously, the first and second of the Buddhist five precepts have been violated, Panatipata veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami I undertake the precept to refrain from destroying living creatures and Adinnadana veramani sikkhapadam samadiyami  I undertake the precept to refrain from taking that which is not given. While there's an intention regarding the second precept, there isn't any in the first, judging from what one of the robbers had said, No one is supposed to die. Now, wonder if the first precept had been broken at all or that while it has been broken, is it just not as weighty as when there is an intention...šŸ¤”
